Nominated by one of our community leaders, I was blessed and honored to receive the award from the Roanoke Rapids Optimist Club as their Partner in Education for 2019. From the Optimist Club report- Mr. Quast, or Coach as many know him, is currently the Assistant Principal at Roanoke Rapids High School. He is an asset to our Roanoke Rapids Graded School District. He has a Bachelors in Adolescent Education:Social Studies, Masters Degree in Literacy,K-12 from State University of New York at Oswego, and a Masters Degree in School Administration, K-12 front NC State. He has been named the Roanoke Rapids Graded School District Teacher of the Year in 2015. He has been the RRHS Swim Coach and helped the swimmers break 17 school records, record number of regional and state qualified swimmers and 1 All Regional Relay and 3 All Regional event winners. His love and care for his students and athletes goes above and beyond what is required. He is their champion and support. Patrick Quast is well deserved of this honor.

This year, our school district placed Community Outreach Liaisons (COL) at each school. Before the Christmas break, I collaborated with our COL, Cassidy Lippert, to reach out to the community businesses to see if they would be interested in sponsoring any of our students over the long holiday break with non-perishable food stuffs. Together, we were able to make inroads in conjunction with the 2018 Distinguished Young Woman of the Roanoke Valley, Sarah Rightmyer and DrugCo. With the help of DrugCo's employees and corporate offices, we were able to collect over 100 food bags, filled to the brim with supplies for the families over the long holiday break. Our students and their families were grateful for the support and thoughtfulness at the holidays.
